Privacy Policy

This policy describes our practices for The Honest Fork. It should be reviewed by counsel before large-scale launch.

The Honest Fork (“we”, “us”) operates thehonestfork.com and the Honest Fork iOS app (bundle ID com.thehonestfork.app).

Information we collect

• Account data from Sign in with Apple, Google, or email/password: name, email address, and user ID.
• Profile data you provide, such as display name.
• User content: reviews, ratings, comments, likes, follows, saves, and photos/videos you upload.
• Precise location when you grant permission — used for maps, nearby restaurants, and (if enabled) visit reminders. On iOS this may include when-in-use and always-on location for visit detection.
• Push tokens (APNs / FCM) so we can send activity and reminder notifications you allow.
• Usage events related to the feed (for example impressions, opens, skips, likes) to operate and improve ranking.
• Technical logs needed to run and secure the service (via Firebase / Google Cloud), such as IP-related logs, device/app diagnostics, and error reports.

Google user data

If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email, basic profile name, and a unique Google user ID solely to authenticate your Honest Fork account and display your name in the app. We do not access Gmail, contacts, calendars, Drive, or other Google services. We do not sell Google user data. Use of that information is limited to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

How we use information

• Provide authentication and your account
• Show and store reviews, social features, maps, and nearby places
• Send push notifications you enable
• Prevent abuse, spam, and security incidents
• Improve reliability and product quality

We do not sell your personal information.

Location

Location is optional. If you allow it, we use it to find restaurants near you, power your map, and optionally remind you to review places you visit. You can revoke location permission in your device settings. We do not use location to sell ads.

Sharing

• Service providers: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and related Google Cloud infrastructure process data on our behalf.
• Other users: Content you post (display name, reviews, photos/videos, public profile activity) is visible to other users of the service.
• Legal: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users, our rights, or safety.

Retention

We keep account and content data while your account is active. You can delete your account in Settings → Delete account, which removes your profile and associated personal data from our active systems (subject to limited backups and legal retention). You may also email support@thehonestfork.com.

Your choices and rights

• Sign out at any time
• Delete your account in Settings
• Control location and notification permissions on your device
• Request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us

If you are in California, we do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are commonly defined under the CCPA/CPRA. If you are in the EEA/UK, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability under applicable law — contact us to exercise them.

Children

The Honest Fork is for users age 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard providers and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above will change when we do. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
